The Gateway Show at Whirled Pies
If you've never been to a comedy show built around a cannabis-themed format, the Gateway Show at Whirled Pies is the easiest way to fix that. It runs every few weeks in downtown Eugene, the format is dialed in after a decade on the road, and the comedians are doing actual stand-up. The first half is regular comedy. The second half is a different energy. The room is part of the show.
Here's what to know if you're thinking about going.
What the Gateway Show actually is
Comedian Billy Anderson started the Gateway Show in Seattle in 2015, shortly after Washington legalized recreational cannabis. He was a touring stand-up comic looking for a fresh angle, and the format he landed on turned out to be more interesting than the weed-show format anyone else was running.
Anderson's stated rule: laughing with the comics, not at them. The show isn't about watching anyone fail. It's about working comedians letting their guard down between sets and finding unscripted moments they couldn't have planned. The first half is structured material. The second half is looser — riffs, callbacks, real-time bits.
The show now tours Oregon, Washington, California, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Montana. The Eugene shows at Whirled Pies are part of a regular Pacific Northwest rotation. Mike Masilotti, a comedian who's been touring with Anderson since 2018 and has hosted dozens of Gateway Shows across the country, is the recurring host for the Eugene stop.
The Eugene schedule
The Gateway Show runs at Whirled Pies on a recurring basis — typically every four to six weeks, almost always on a Friday or Saturday. It's not strictly monthly: some months get skipped depending on Billy and Mike's tour routing. Whirled Pies, the venue
If you haven't been, Whirled Pies took over the old Cozmic space at 199 W 8th Ave in downtown Eugene. The room is a sprawling, sculpture-filled former car dealership with a 200+ capacity and state-of-the-art lights and sound. They serve pizza, burgers, and a full bar daily from 3 PM to 10 PM and at every show. The kitchen is open during the Gateway Show — get there early, grab a slice, get a drink, settle in.
The venue books seven nights of live music a week and runs cultural programming year-round: jazz jams, Garcia Birthday Band shows, Grateful To The Core, Eugene Deadhead Trivia (last Monday of every month, free), local rock bands, comedy. If the Gateway Show schedule doesn't line up with a night you're free, there's almost always something else worth showing up for at this venue.
Whirled Pies is two blocks from the bus station and a short walk from most of downtown. There's pay parking nearby and free parking after 6 PM at the Parcade (35 W 8th Ave) for some shows.

Why we're writing about it
Green Health Eugene has been a downtown-corridor cannabis shop since 2014, and the Gateway Show is one of the more interesting standing events in the broader Eugene cultural scene. We carry a wide range of cannabis products on our live menu — edibles from Drops, Wyld, Gron, Hapy Kitchen, and Magic Number; hand-rolled pre-rolls from $3; and concentrates including live rosin, bubble hash, and disposable vapes — and we're at 607 Hwy 99 N, open daily 9 AM to 9 PM. Getting from our shop to Whirled Pies
From 607 Hwy 99 N to Whirled Pies at 199 W 8th Ave is about 2.5 miles, roughly an 8-minute drive straight down 6th or 7th Ave into downtown. We're open until 9 PM daily. Eugene has reliable rideshare if you'd rather not drive. Check our daily deals if you happen to be stopping by — Tuesday and Saturday is 15% off extracts, carts, and vapes; Wednesday and Sunday is 15% off edibles, tinctures, and topicals.

One of the most exciting young bluegrass acts in the country is heading to Eugene. Shadowgrass plays the WOW Hall on Friday, March 13, 2026, and if you haven't caught them live yet, this is your chance before their ticket prices — and venue sizes — go up.
Who Is Shadowgrass?
Shadowgrass started the way the best bands do: friends picking together at a fiddlers' convention in rural Virginia. Clay Russell (banjo), Luke Morris (mandolin), and Kyser George (guitar) were barely teenagers when they formed the group back in 2014. A decade later, they've added fiddle player Madison Morris and bassist Evan Campfield, earned co-signs from Billy Strings and Jeremy Garrett of the Infamous Stringdusters, and built a massive social media following off viral Instagram reels that showcase their jaw-dropping instrumental chops.
Their sophomore album, All That Will, moves well beyond traditional bluegrass. The band blends Appalachian roots with jam-band improvisation, gypsy jazz, and classic rock covers — think Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" reimagined through banjo and mandolin. It's bluegrass for people who love bluegrass, and for people who didn't know they loved bluegrass.

The WOW Hall is an intimate 300-capacity room with a general admission floor and a balcony, so there's genuinely not a bad spot in the house. That said, Shadowgrass shows sell — grab your tickets early.

Getting There
Green Health Eugene is located in the Bethel-Danebo area at 607 Highway 99 N. From our shop, the WOW Hall is about a 10-minute drive south down Highway 99 to downtown Eugene. Street parking around 8th Avenue is free after 6 PM on weeknights and all day on weekends, though it fills up fast on show nights. The LTD bus system also serves both areas if you'd rather skip driving altogether.

Shadowgrass is in the middle of a major headlining tour across the U.S. in 2026, and they're also playing festival stages at DelFest, Blue Ox, and the Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival this year. Catching them in a 300-person room like the WOW Hall is the kind of experience that becomes a story you tell later — "I saw them when..."
